TRACK SAFETY

These are some of the rules you must abide by for everyone’s safety;

*When warming up before a session and cooling down after a session, use lanes 7 and 8 only. Do not walk or jog in the inside lanes. This includes recovery between sets. If you are doing sets of 300m with 100m walk recovery for example, move out of lane 1 for your recovery.

*If you are about to begin a rep and are standing at the start line, whether it be the 400m start, 300m start etc, and another athlete shouts 'TRACK' from behind, you must move out of the lane you are in. If you are in lane 1, move to the inside of the track, ie the football pitch. If you are in lane 2 or 3 move out into the next lane. Do not change your direction once you have started to move. If you are in the middle of your rep and someone shouts ‘TRACK’ behind, the same rules apply.

*If you need to cross the track, always look BOTH WAYS before you cross. Some athletes may run the wrong way on the track when warming up or if the wind is has greater benefit in that direction, usually on a straight, so be aware of this. Move quickly across once you are on the track.

*If a group is doing javelin, hammer or discus, DO NOT walk across the football pitch, walk around the back of the cage or in an outside lane if you are at the opposite end of the track. Similarly, if a group is using the Shot Putt circle, do not walk in front of the circle, and follow the inside of the track around the back of it.

*If another athlete is doing a block start session nearby, please stand behind them and be as quiet as possible.
