1st March 2008- Scottish Senior Indoor Championships, Kelvin Hall, Glasgow

By Steven Whyteside

"Earlier in the day on Saturday before the Junior Relay's 3 of Whitemoss's senior athletes competed in the DM Hall Senior Championships.

The results are

Julie Whyteside 3000m 10th 10:48.93 PB & CR
Paul White 800m 4th in heat 2:09.51 CR
David Robertson Pole Vault 2nd (Silver) 3.80m

Well done to all 3."

CR denotes Club Record.

For the relays Steven is referring to, Allan Boyd takes up the story.

"Under 13 Boys (Craig Whyteside, Jack Anderson, Jonathon Shaw and Andrew Ravenscroft) finished 4th in their heat in 2.07.05. This was 6th fastest overall and would almost have made the final.

Under 13 Girls (Sarah MacDonald, Lauren McSkimming, Stephanie Curran and Emma Frame) finished 3rd in their heat in 2.05.99 - faster than the boys. This was 8th fastest in a much larger field.

Many thanks to Sarah, an under 11 girl, who stood in at the last minute to enable the girls team to compete.

Thanks also to Steven Whyteside for his help in pursuing our very very late application forms and to Scottish Athletics for allowing both teams to take part.

23rd February 2008- National Cross Country Championships, Callendar Park, Falkirk

The endurance group recently enjoyed their final cross country outing for a few months though I use the word "enjoyed" loosely. It stayed dry all day but gale force winds and heavy mud due to the rainfall all week combined to create a gruelling test of stamina. The under 13s continued to set the example to the remainder of the club, the boys only just being pipped for a team bronze and the girls being just one body short for a team. Conditions certainly suited the stockier, more muscular athletes while lightweights like me got blown about everywhere. My mum does always say I need to put on weight. On days like this, I wish I listened.

Here are the facts and figures from the annual pilgrimage to Callendar Park. Thanks to Steven Whyteside for typing these up.

16th and 17th February 2008- Scottish Combined Events and Veterans Championships, Kelvin Hall, Glasgow

I refuse to use the word "Masters" on a point of principle. The correct term is "Veterans" and always will be. I was at the first day of this event and have to say there is something very humbling about watching a guy in his 80s do a 1500m then dust himself down one hour later for an 800m. That's what a chap called Hugh McGinlay from Falkirk did.  Astounding.

Whitemoss young and slightly more experienced did not come away empty handed as you will see below.

12th and 13th January 2008- Scottish Athletics Indoor District and Closed Senior Championships, Kelvin Hall, Glasgow

A busy weekend brought a good medal haul and other good performances from Whitemoss not to mention a new championship best. A notable stat is what in my view is the form age group in the club, under 13 boys, making up 60% of the 800m final. The  results are now updated to include Sunday's Closed Senior events.
