Competition Information Back to "About Whitemoss"
The information below comprises the type of competitions that Whitemoss athletes take part in during the year.
Open Graded events- Linwood, Ayr & Grangemouth have plenty of Open graded events on during the summer. An Open graded event is where you turn up, register for what event(s) you want to do, compete and go home. Times distances etc are recorded, count towards Power of 10 and Scottish rankings and are used by team managers to gauge current form. The Dumfries Open graded in April normally has events for under 9s.
Central & South Scotland League or CSSL- This is the outdoor league that Whitemoss compete in. Team Managers select the team using the Team selection policy. If selected you should receive a letter 3 weeks before the event.
Young Athletes League- For the first time, in 2008, South Lanarkshire have entered a team in this league. This is for both male and female athletes at Under 13 to Under 17. The team will be selected from athletes registered with South Lanarkshire Clubs and will based on Scottish rankings and Power of 10 positions. Jim Goldie the Athletics development officer for South Lanarkshire Leisure will be the Team Manager but there will be at least 1 Whitemoss representative at each team selection meeting.
Women’s League (Team West)- Whitemoss have contributed athletes to Team West since 2007. This is a composite team made from the best female athletes from Whitemoss, Giffnock North, Ayr Seaforth and Kilbarchan. The League caters for female athletes from Under 13 upwards.
National Junior League- This is another new adventure from the South Lanarkshire athletic partnership. This league is for Under 17 & Under 20 athletes and is at a very high level of competition. Some of the dates of this league clash with the CSSL and at Whitemoss we leave it to the athletes involved to determine which competition they enter.
Men’s League- This is for Senior male athletes although Under 17s who make the required standard can also be eligible. Keith Stoddart is the Team Manager for this and anyone interested should contact him on kstoddart@blueyonder.co.uk. Distance runners and power throwers will be especially welcomed with open arms!
West District Championships- Although the standard for this competition may be higher than your normal league meeting it is still worth considering this competition. Please ask your coach if you should enter. The Club will refund your entry after you compete.
Scottish Age Group Championships- These are held in late August. Use the Power of 10 website to see how you rank in Scotland and nearer the time decide if you want to have go or not. The Club will refund your entry after you compete.
Note that your Scottish Athletics membership must be up to date to compete in the District and Age Group Championships.
Indoor Competitions generally comprise the following:-
Indoor League- 3 meetings at the Kelvin Hall. There are morning and afternoon sessions, Whitemoss compete in the morning. The top 5 clubs in each age group overall progress to the finals where there are also relays for all age groups, whether in the finals or not.
Open Graded Events- arranged on a bit more of an ad hoc basis but set up is similar to the outdoor events.
West District Championships and Scottish Age Group Championships- equivalent to the above but indoors.
